Save or splurge: double strap mules

They may look similar, but how differently are they priced?

Over the last couple of years, mules have become the ultimate spring summer footwear. In fact, their versatility and timeless style are what makes them so desirable, even when they are quite understated among other seasonal shoes.

High demand can only mean two things though – similar styles and more suppliers. And the effortlessly stylish everyday style that’s coming back over and over again are double strap mules.

Designer or high street?

High street retailers and luxury designer brands quickly embraced the trend by offering open toe, block heel mules with wide criss-cross straps. So far, this classic design comes in nude and black which is good news since they are true investment colours.

Slip-on wear and soft materials are what they all have in common, including Saint Laurent’s Loulou leather mules which are available in both colours. However, they will take a big chunk out of your wallet being priced at £470.

Similarly, vegan footwear brand Collection & Co designed look-alike cruelty-free sandals in both black and beige for a fraction of a price. You can get their Lindos cross over mules for £95, which is slightly more realistic for most of the fashionistas, but is also eco and animal-friendly.
