One of the biggest events on the fashion calendar, Met Gala, was held yesterday evening in New York, gathering the biggest names of the showbiz and fashion industry. The event traditionally takes place on the first Monday of May where celebs get together to raise money ($35,000 per person only for the chair to be precise) for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and celebrate the opening of the latest exhibition.
This year’s exhibition theme was Camp: Notes On Fashion. The idea came from Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay called Notes on ‘Camp’. What exactly is camp? It’s about being ironic, humorous, theatrical, over the top and exaggerated and how are those elements expressed in fashion. Sounds exciting!
The exhibition itself starts on May 9 and will be live until September 8. It will feature around 200 pieces, including impressive gowns by Giambattista Valli, House of Schiaparelli, Anna Sui, Balenciaga (created by the designer itself in 1965) and Bjork’s famous swan dress.
How did celebs interpret Met Gala’s theme? These are the looks you need to see.
