There’s nothing quite like a feeling of freshly cleansed and renewed skin after going to the salon or spa for a facial treatment. But for many, it also means both time and money you may not always have to indulge yourself.
Still, you don’t need the excuse to treat yourself with a spa-like facial. Embrace the self-care routine and give yourself well-deserved love and care at home. Trust us, your skin deserves it.
And we the products and tools designed to brighten, tighten, de-puff your skin and lots more, this has never been so accessible and easy.
From cleansing and exfoliating to targeting fine lines and wrinkles, these tools could possibly be a secret to healthy glowing skin. Let’s take a closer look.
Jade facial roller
This face massager is a relaxing skincare accessory created to get you that healthy complexion. As the name might suggest, it’s made of gemstone jade. They vary in colour, from emerald green to turquoise. Although jade rollers are quite affordable (you can easily buy one for under £15), don’t be fooled with a super cheap price tag – it’s probably made of dyed stone, especially if it has some kind of design.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Use it in the morning to boost circulation, stimulate blood flow and eliminate puffiness. Go back to it in the evening to smoothen the wrinkles, relax the muscles and reduce toxin build-up. You can roll your serums and moisturisers (even sheet masks!) into the skin too – not only it makes your skincare routine even more relaxing but you won’t waste unnecessary products because they won’t absorb into your hands first.
Extra tip: Keep it in the fridge for a super cooling effect.
Yu Ying Rollers
When it comes to facial cleansers, an electric cleansing brush is a pretty known and widely used skincare tool. Created to cleanse and get rid of any trace of makeup, dead skin cells and impurities, it’s a more pricey skincare tool you will probably have in your collection.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Easy and quick to use – it literally takes a minute to cleanse your face and remove the makeup which makes an essential part of evening skincare routine. Electric cleansing brushes are more effective than manual cleansing since they use sonic technology and pulsed vibrations. Plus, you can give yourself a simple facial massage in seconds.

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese tool used to boost circulation, relax the muscles and energise the skin, basically an at-home facial massage that makes your skin look healthy and glowing for the fraction of the price.
WHY WE LOVE IT: This skin-boosting tool is a natural and affordable alternative to basic facial treatment, and once you get a hold of it, you won’t stop using it in your daily skincare routine. Similar to face roller, it reduces puffiness and encourages lymphatic drainage but you can personalise it to your skin needs.
Again, just like jade roller, keep it in the fridge for an extra cooling effect.
HOW TO USE IT:
- Never use gua sha on bare skin, rather apply a facial oil or water. You can use it on your face, body or scalp.
- Using short strokes, glide the gua sha gently in one direction, never back and forth.
- Press it flat on the skin, under the eyes for example to de-puff or scrape in an outwards motion starting from cheeks and moving to jawline, neck and forehead.
Technically not a tool, it still gets the points as being quite a useful addition to your skincare routine. Again, if you prefer to keep it simple and stay away from fancy tools, muslin cloth does the trick too. You can easily clean it in your wash machine and use it over and over again, so quite cost-effective and eco-friendly too.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Muslin cloths help eliminate dead skin cells and residuals, without scrubbing or upsetting sensitive skin. It also works as a mild exfoliator and stimulates blood flow. Apply your cleanser first and then wipe it out with dampened muslin cloth – it’s that simple!
If these fancy tools seem a bit too much for you to handle right now, why not start your skincare/self-care journey with this little beauty accessory. Konjac sponge is a natural cleansing exfoliator made from the roots of a konjac plant (yes, it’s vegan friendly). It’s biodegradable and it will last a couple of months before it needs a replacement.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Konjac sponge is a natural (and manual) alternative to cleansing brushes. It’s used to remove makeup and scrub off any impurities and dead skin cells, as well as to gently exfoliate the skin without being too harsh. The plant is naturally alkaline meaning it perfectly balances skin pH.
HOW TO USE IT:
- The sponge is firm when dry so you need to rinse it under warm water first. Once soaked, it becomes soft and silky.
- Squeeze the excess water – you can use it with or without cleanser, a small amount is enough.
- Massage onto your face in circular motions.
- Finally, rinse again, carefully squeeze the water and let it dry (preferably not in a steamy bathroom).

Last but not least is a pillowcase. This is not your standard beauty tool, but it definitely deserves its spot on the list because beauty sleep is a real thing.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Your first thought might be your hair – you are right, a beauty pillowcase indeed helps with hair frizz and moisture. But it has many benefits for the skin too, which is basically a skincare/self-care treatment you can have all year long. First, similar to hair, a beauty pillowcase allows better moisture retention which means your skin is more hydrated since cotton is very absorbent. Secondly, it helps skin creases less because of the silky material which means less chance for the wrinkles too!
